Evening Rotary Club Helps Local Students

Evening Rotary Club provided as much help to our local students as they can.

Displaying banners on a school bus for the donation drive, Rotarians rendered around $2,500 in supplies to the schools in the area.

“Working within the school is something that we are passionate about,” said Gay Ratcliff-Seamens, president of the club. “We love seeing the children get excited about school, to grow and want to do better to help make a difference within our community.”

“These are great for the students because the boxes has the basic items each student needs,” said Mitzi Smith, the Harbour View Elementary School Assistant Principal

Smith recently received the school supplies containing hand sanitizer, Kleenex packs and regular school supplies including pencils, glue, rulers, markers and erasers, all delivered by club members.

Coming out of pandemic, Ratcliff-Seamens said even though the year has been tough, they have managed to help many students in different schools.

“We are so proud of our students, our club members and all our sponsors,” she said. “They have all played a major role throughout the pandemic, and we are making the world a better place for it. We have a mission to serve and make a difference, so why not start with the younger generations?”

Not just helping needy children with school supplies. The club also offers scholarships to students to help them fulfill the dream of obtaining the best education and career.

“The Rotary Interact Club of South Sumter High School is sponsored by our club,” said Ratcliff-Seamens, of the Village of Belle Aire. “They have a goal of making a difference in their school and throughout their community. The club members have worked on a recycling effort and an anti-bullying awareness project to help promote inclusion.”

Eric Miller, manager, and Tim Livesey, the assistant manager at Staples, said in a news release that customers are pitching in huge numbers. They are pleased to know that the store is playing a role in catering to these school-going children.

“Our customers and staff are excited that we are helping to make a difference in the lives of students,” Livesey said. “We are grateful members of Evening Rotary Club have made the connection or partnership with Staples.”
