Lady Lake Police Department welcomes new K-9 to the squad

The Lady Lake Police Department introduced its newest K-9 officer, Ember, to the public this week.

Ember, a two-year-old black Labrador retriever, joins the department with 160 hours of narcotics and tracking training under his paws. He is able to detect heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as track missing person.

Ember will be used primarily in daily patrols and in detection tasks.

The town commission approved the acquisition of Ember for $10,000 in back in June. The purchase was possible due to the department’s PD K-9 Donation Fund, which is provided by the Moritz Foundation.

Ember will join K-9 Fast, replacing K-9 Lux, who retired in April after six years of service.

This information was provided by the town of Lady Lake.
