Rescue spotlight of the week: Chucho

Help Chucho find his forever home.

Chucho, an American Stafford terrier, has called Sumter County Animal Services home since April 2022. He is known among staff as a big sweetheart who loves car rides, sunbathing and running around the yard.

Earlier this year, Chucho went home with a family for a month, but came back to the shelter since he did not get along with the family’s cat and pigs. Regardless, the family said Chucho was wonderful as a family pet and did well with the family’s three children. He also gets along well with most other dogs, and even has become best buddies with another long-time shelter pup named Pogo.

Chucho knows how to sit and shake his paw. While he is calm in most situations, he does get nervous during storms, and may need calming medication to help deal with them.

All animals adopted at the shelter are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped and have received heart worm and flea prevention medication. In addition, dogs are tested for heart worm disease.

Adoption fees are currently waived.

The shelter is open daily from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at 819 CR 529, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33585.
