Sumter County High School teacher arrested for making inappropriate contact with student

A teacher from South Sumter High School has been placed behind bars after allegedly making inappropriate contact with a student.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on Nov.11 after a student reported a teacher, later identified as 48-year-old Jason Patrick Sager, had engaged in “inappropriate communications and physical contact” with them, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Investigations revealed Sager used social media to contact the student after school hours in addition to making unlawful physical contact with them.

During an interview with a witness who had information pertaining to Sager’s actions, deputies determined the witness was not the only victim of unlawful touch by Sager.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sager on Wednesday night on two counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor and four counts of battery. Sager remains at the Hernando County Jail with a bond of $14,000.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is asking any other potential victims of Sager, or anyone with information about additional instances of inappropriate contact to call them at (352) 569-1600.
