Threatening message in middle school bathroom leads to two arrests

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office charged two middle school students for writing threatening comments and disrupting school yesterday.

An investigation began at Tavares Middle School after school officials found a threatening message written in marker on a mirror in one of the girls’ bathrooms related to gun violence.

The school resource officer quickly discovered the identities of the perpetrators as two 13-year-old female students. One confessed to writing the comments on the mirror with the other student. After searching both the students’ backpacks, deputies found markers that matched the type used to write on the mirror.

The two students were placed under arrest and transported to the Lake County Detention Center.
