Hospice of Marion County Received Donation from a Local

Hospice of Marion County was grateful for the $2,000 contribution from The Villages Theater Company (TVTC), at the Summerfield location.

The donation was received by Roxie Merino and a representative from the Philanthropy Department of Hospice, Cindy Moody, at the Hospice of Marion County thrift store.

“It always amazes me how generous people can be,” Merino said. “They take that generosity and help us with our missions while also taking the time to learn more about us.”

Merino works as a manager at the Hospice of Marion County Thrift Store. Having a family member in hospice care, she is thankful to all who generously donate, shop or volunteer at the store and the nonprofit organization it supports.

“The store gives me a place to forget what is going on in my personal life even if just for a few moments,” said Merino, of the Village of Calumet Grove. “We probably have all had a family member or know of someone who was in hospice care at some point in our lives.”

Judy Prior, president of TVTC, chose Hospice of Marion County because of the great patient care they deliver.

“We love being able to help within our community,” Prior, a Village of Belle Aire resident, said. “If a member of our group is involved in a particular nonprofit organization, we are also going to take an interest, so we can still try to support that member and that group.”

Hospice of Marion County is a nonprofit organization that uses the funds raised by the thrift stores to help pay costs for patients in hospice care.

“We are appreciative for everything that is done for hospice,” Merino said. “All these people together help play a tremendous role within the community, and their support means the world.”

“When we found out that Roxie had a family member in hospice care, we have and still are giving her a lot of support,” said Sandie Hawthorne, a Hospice of Marion County Thrift Store volunteer. “And it’s wonderful to be able to work with The Villages Theater Company in another way besides helping them pick out costumes and props.”
