Sumter County residents can now track crime in their area via online map

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with LexisNexis Risk Solutions to create a new online system to help citizens stay better informed about crime in their area. This is according to a recent press release from the sheriff’s office.

The Community Crime Map is an online map that analyzes data, and allows citizens to review crime in their general surroundings. The map syncs with the sheriff’s office’s system, allowing for information to update on a regular basis. Due to privacy issues, some crimes — for example sex offenses, child abuse and homicides — will not be displayed. In addition, due to Marsy’s Law, certain crime locations have been offset to protect the identity of victims.

Residents in Sumter County can opt-in to receive updates about certain crime in specific locations, such as their home, workplace or child’s school. The map can be found at communitycrimemap.com. Just type in your general area, or address, to access information about the area.
