Neighbor Rescues Resident from Structure Fire

On May 3, Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units in the south end of Marion County were dispatched to a residential structure located off of US Hwy 441. The 911 caller stated flames were visible and that there was a person trapped inside the structure.

According to Florida Police Scanner, the first of 12 MCFR units arrived within minutes, reporting a working fire, with a patient outside. A neighbor kicked in the door and pulled the patient from the structure. R518 took patient care while Engine 18 made entry to extinguish the fire. The patient was declared a trauma alert and transported to a trauma hospital. A quick offensive attack on the fire brought it under control within minutes of arrival.

The cause and origin of this fire remains under investigation.
