Restaurateurs in The Villages React to the CDC’s Easing of COVID-19 Protocols

According to the newest report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about COVID-19 safety measures, at least three Villages restaurant owners will make modifications to their operations.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House session on the virus that those who have been properly vaccinated against COVID-19 can resume activities they had to discontinue when the pandemic struck the country in March 2020. She claims that science backs a new advice that people who have been completely vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities of all sizes without the need to wear masks for social distancing. She went on to say that two studies from the US and one from Israel prove that the vaccinations are effective.

After submitting their CDC cards indicating confirmation of immunization, Allen Musikantow, owner/operator of Cody’s Original Roadhouse restaurants in Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood, told his staff that anyone who has been properly vaccinated no longer need to wear masks. They will be permitted to wear masks if they so desire, but they will no longer be forced to have their temperatures monitored or to fill out a health form when they arrive at work.

“If you have not been vaccinated, I encourage you to do so immediately,” Musikantow said. He further stated that if employees provide their CDC cards proving vaccines, he will pay them a $20 bonus.

Fred Karimipour, owner of FMK Restaurant Group, said he’s making changes to his seven Villages restaurants – Chop House at Lake Sumter Landing, Bluefin Grill & Bar in Brownwood Paddock Square, Bonifay Country Club, Belle Glade Country Club, Orange Blossom Hills Country Club, Evans Prairie Country Club and Scooples Ice Cream Parlor in Brownwood – as well as a soon-to-be eighth eatery, Hacienda at Lake Sumter.

“Our employees who have been vaccinated can stop wearing masks,” said Karimipour. Apart from that, he also stated that they will have to provide confirmation with their vaccination cards.

Gina Buell, who owns the City Fire restaurants in Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood with her husband Mike, said her vaccinated employees can choose whether or not to wear masks, but they will still be part of their uniforms. Staff members will cheerfully wear masks if customers require them, and face masks are available for guests who require them, she added.
