Tutors for Kids hosting workshop for volunteers

Tutors for Kids welcomes existing tutors to a workshop focused on helping students struggling with math.

Tutors for Kids is a nonprofit organization that brings communities together by using the help of volunteers in local schools. The organization works with schools to pinpoint areas in need of support — including tutoring needs in subjects such as math, science, reading and writing.

Over 185 people across Lake, Marion and Sumter counties currently volunteer with the organization. The last quarterly meeting had over 80 volunteers in attendance.

The workshop will take place April 25 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, and attendees will have the chance to listen to math education specialist, Annie Fetter, speak. Fetter’s expertise has taken her to conferences across the country where she speaks about helping students focus on sense-making and giving ideas to educators on how to aid students in leveraging ideas.
